ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Created 2014, Cano is a German shoe brand that originates from Mexico. Philip and Lukas, the founders, fell in love with this Central American country during an academic exchange. On their return to Europe, they wanted to make known the unique know-how of the huaraches, which particularly caught their attention. This is a pair of handmade leather sandals using a traditional Mexican weaving method. All pairs are made with high quality vegetable-tanned or factory-sourced leather, and feature an FTC tag to trace the entire supply chain.

Composition

100% recycled material

Recycled materials are eco-responsible and help promote the circular economy. They are often made from pre- or post-consumer waste. Using recycled components to make new products significantly reduces the environmental impact of the production process, since no new material is created. Among the most common recycled materials, we find recycled cotton, recycled polyester, recycled wool, or recycled nylon. We can also recycle metals for jewelry, such as gold or silver.

Located in the State of Guanajuato in Mexico, the Hector factory is a traditional family business founded in 2003. Specialized in the artisanal manufacture of boots and ankle boots, the factory respects all of its employees to whom it offers good working conditions and fair remuneration.

Guadalajara, Mexico

Located in the state of Guadalajara in Mexico, Beruma Tannery is a family business that has been in existence for over four generations. Specializing in vegetable tanning of leather, the company is recognized for the quality of the products it manufactures. The current manager and owner himself worked for years in the tannery, where he was able to learn the different stages of vegetable tanning of huarache leather sandals.

Tannerie Le Farc
Leon, Mexico

Located in the state of Guanajuato in Mexico, Le Farc tannery is internationally recognized for its technical expertise, ecological awareness, and the innovation they demonstrate at every step of the tanning process. Aware of the environmental issues linked to leather, this tannery is constantly looking for more ecological alternatives and only works with vegetable tanning. Their products are certified "Reach California's 65" which guarantees the absence of prohibited regulated substances. In addition, the company attaches particular importance to the well-being of its employees, and it supports non-profit associations that help orphanages, schools and retirement homes.

Commitments

Leather products Cano comes from the food industry, which allows the brand to considerably limit its environmental footprint. The brand Cano uses the technique of vegetable tanning, which limits the presence of toxic elements linked to the treatment of leather. All the products are tanned by companies which only use vegetable tanning guaranteed without chromium, and which are certified Clean Company. In addition, in partner factories of Cano, the water used for leather processing is heated by solar panels installed by the factories themselves.
From the sourcing of raw materials to the manufacture of finished products, all stages of production are carried out in Mexico in family businesses: one is that of Sebastian, two generations specializing in the manufacture of Mexican huaraches with a limited traditional know-how. ecological impact; the other is that of Armando, a father joined by his son Hector, an engineer passionate about craftsmanship who decided to devote his life to it. This choice was made in order to maintain the local economy and to perpetuate the ancestral know-how linked to the production of huaraches.
All pairs Cano are handcrafted using a traditional Mexican weaving method.
